Rocket Ranger on NES is this weird little gem where you play as a jetpack-wearing hero trying to stop Nazis from taking over the world—because of course they are. The controls take a second to get used to (Z for jumping? Really?), but once you figure it out, you're bouncing around levels, punching bad guys, and occasionally hopping into a plane for some top-down shooter sections.
What makes it fun is how janky it feels—your jetpack has this awkward floatiness, and sometimes you'll overshoot a platform completely. But there's something satisfying about nailing a tricky landing or finally taking down that annoying enemy who keeps respawning. The mix of action and strategy (you gotta manage fuel and ammo) keeps it from being mindless.
Also, the soundtrack slaps. That main theme will be stuck in your head for days.
