RoboWarrior is one of those NES deep cuts that feels like a weird mix of Bomberman and Metroid. You play as ZED, a cyborg soldier dropped onto this alien planet Altile to wreck the Xantho empire’s day. The whole thing plays out in these maze-like levels where you’re mostly tossing bombs—not just to blow up enemies, but to chip away at walls and uncover hidden stuff. Feels kinda janky at first, but there’s something satisfying about methodically clearing paths and hunting for keys to unlock doors.
Oh, and the music? Surprisingly moody for an NES game—lots of eerie synths that make the whole alien planet vibe stick. Just don’t expect to breeze through it; some of those key hunts will have you backtracking like crazy. Still, there’s a weird charm to its clunky, explosive chaos.
