About Robocop (japan)
I picked up RoboCop for the Game Boy, a 1990 release from Data East. It arrived during the early wave of licensed games on the system, a time when you hoped a movie adaptation would capture some of the film's gritty action. This one puts you directly into the heavy boots of Officer Alex Murphy.
You control RoboCop through side-scrolling urban stages, moving methodically from left to right. Your primary goal is to clean up the streets of Old Detroit by blasting through waves of criminals. You use your standard Auto-9 pistol for most enemies, and you can occasionally pick up more powerful weapons like a machine gun for a temporary boost. The game is structured screen by screen; you must eliminate all enemies in an area before you can proceed. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise shots and careful positioning to avoid taking too much damage. Navigating the destructible environments while managing your limited ammunition creates a tense, methodical experience.
