About Robocop (japan)
I remember picking up RoboCop for the NES back in 1988. It was a Data East game, one of many movie tie-ins from that era, and it landed right in the middle of the console's life. You saw a lot of these side-scrolling action games back then, trying to capture the feel of a film with limited hardware.
You control RoboCop himself, moving from left to right through city streets and industrial areas. Your main goal is to clean up Old Detroit by shooting criminals and eventually confronting the crime lord Clarence Boddicker. The game uses a screen by screen progression; you clear all the enemies on one screen to advance to the next. Your primary weapon is RoboCop's Auto-9 pistol, which has limited ammo, forcing you to pick up new clips from defeated foes. You also use a punch for close encounters and can find a few other temporary weapons. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is quite high, with enemies swarming from all directions. Playing it feels like a constant, deliberate fight for survival against overwhelming odds.
