Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves for the NES came out in 1991 from Sculptured Software. It was one of many movie licensed games on the system, trying to capture the adventure of the film in 8-bit form. You control Robin Hood himself, moving through a mix of overhead and side-view areas. Your main goal is to gather your band of Merry Men and ultimately confront the Sheriff of Nottingham.
You explore the world screen by screen, fighting guards with your sword and using a limited supply of arrows for your bow. A key part of the game is finding and recruiting characters like Little John and Friar Tuck, who each grant you a new ability. The pacing is deliberate, as you backtrack through forests and castles, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially with the limited continues.
