Resident Evil 2 on N64 is one of those games that still holds up as a masterclass in survival horror. You start off as either Leon or Claire, stumbling into Raccoon City just as everything goes to hell—zombies everywhere, creepy police station hallways, and that constant dread of running low on ammo. The N64 version somehow crammed all that atmosphere into a cartridge, complete with those janky-but-charming tank controls.
What really gets you is the tension. You’ll be carefully counting bullets, debating whether to fight or run, and solving puzzles while something groans just around the corner. The fixed camera angles make every room feel like a trap, and the sound design? Still unnerving. It’s not just about shooting—it’s about surviving with whatever scraps you can find.
If you’ve got the stomach for it, this is one of the best ways to experience old-school horror. Just don’t blame me when you jump at a window shattering.
