Resident Evil 2 on N64 is still one of the scariest games I’ve played—even with those blocky graphics. You start off as either Leon or Claire, stuck in Raccoon City after the zombie outbreak, and right away, you’re scrambling for ammo while creepy hallway moans keep you on edge. The puzzles are just the right kind of frustrating, where you’ll backtrack through the police station muttering, "Where the hell was that key again?"
What’s wild is how different each character’s story plays out. Leon’s got more firepower, but Claire’s got better mobility, so replaying it actually feels fresh. And yeah, the N64 version has some downgraded visuals, but the tension? Still perfect. You’ll hear a licker crawling on the ceiling before you see it, and that’s when the panic sets in.
If you can handle tank controls and limited saves, this is survival horror at its best. Just don’t blame me when you jump at a window smashing behind you.
