About Rescue
Rescue came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, published by ASCII Corporation. It was part of that later wave of NES games where developers were trying out more complex ideas, moving beyond straightforward platformers and shooters. You don't see many games like it from that time.
You control a team of three commandos on a mission to infiltrate a heavily guarded building. Your main objective is to guide each character, one at a time, to a specific rescue point while avoiding searchlights that sweep across the screen. If a light touches you, that character dies instantly. Once all three reach their positions, the game shifts to a sniper phase where you watch windows for enemy movement. Success here makes the final stage easier, but it requires a lot of patience. The last part is a tense rooftop descent where you must time each character's rappel perfectly or they will fall. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is unforgiving; it feels like a careful, methodical puzzle where a single mistake costs you everything.
