About Renju Club
Renju Club was released for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Athena. It arrived during a period when the handheld was becoming a home for many traditional board and puzzle games, offering a portable version of a classic abstract strategy game.
You play by placing black and white stones on a grid, aiming to be the first to create an unbroken row of five of your stones. The game enforces specific opening rules to balance the first player's advantage and includes rules that ban certain double threats to make the game more strategic. Matches are typically quick, but the limited screen size of the Game Boy means you need to scroll the board to see all your options, which adds a small layer of planning to every move.
