About Remote Control
Remote Control was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 by Hi Tech Expressions, a game that tried to capture the feel of the chaotic MTV game show. It fits right in with that era of NES titles based on TV properties, a straightforward attempt to bring a live action quiz format into a cartridge.
You control one of three contestants, either by yourself or against computer opponents, answering trivia questions about television and movies. The main goal is to outscore your rivals over two rounds of channel selection, where you pick a category from a grid of nine channels to reveal a question and then buzz in to answer. The signature mechanics involve navigating this channel grid, with some surprise channels that randomly award or deduct points instead of posing a question. The pacing is fast, especially in the final "think real fast" round where you have thirty seconds to answer as many short questions as possible, and the difficulty comes from the broad trivia and the pressure to be quick. Playing it feels like a frantic race to prove you know more about TV than your friends.
