About Red Arremer - Makaimura Gaiden (japan)
Red Arremer: Makaimura Gaiden came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by Capcom. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers tried to bring console-style adventures to the small screen, a side story to the Ghouls 'n Ghosts series. You don't play as Arthur this time; instead, you control Firebrand, the red gargoyle enemy from the main games.
You guide Firebrand through a series of side-scrolling stages, moving screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue your fellow demons who have been imprisoned. Firebrand can cling to walls and ceilings, which changes how you navigate the levels. You attack with a fire breath projectile, and you collect power-ups that change its strength and range. The game is methodical; you often have to plan your route and use your clinging ability to avoid traps and enemies. It feels like a deliberate puzzle-action hybrid, where careful movement is just as important as attacking.
