Real Bout Special came out for the Game Boy in 1998, published by SNK. It was part of that late era for the handheld where developers were really pushing what the hardware could do with fighting games. You got a surprisingly robust port of an arcade fighter on a system not exactly known for them.

You control one of several fighters from the Fatal Fury series, like Terry Bogard or Geese Howard. Your main goal is to defeat all the other characters in one-on-one fights to become the champion. The game uses a two-plane system; you can hop between the foreground and background to dodge attacks and create openings. Special moves require precise directional inputs and button combinations, and landing a powerful super move can quickly turn the match around. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be quite challenging, demanding quick reflexes and a good understanding of your character's moveset. It feels responsive and sharp when you finally get the timing down for a combo.
