About Ready 2 Rumble Boxing (e)
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed by Midway Games. It was part of that wave of arcade style sports games on the system, focusing more on cartoonish fun than simulation. You could pick it up and play without needing to learn complex controls or strategies.
You control one of a roster of exaggerated boxers, each with their own personality and special moves. The main goal is to knock out your opponent or win by decision across a series of rounds. Two key mechanics define the action: building up a "Rumble" meter by landing punches, which when full lets you unleash a powerful flurry of attacks, and a health system where your boxer's face visibly swells and bruises as they take damage. The pacing is fast, with big, readable punches that make it easy to get into the flow. It feels satisfying to land a full Rumble combo and see your opponent stagger across the ring.
