Rampart on GB is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that shouldn’t work as well as it does. You’re basically playing Tetris with castle walls—drop blocks to rebuild your defenses between waves of enemy ships bombarding you. Mess up the layout, and suddenly you’ve got gaps where cannonballs slip right through.
The pixel art is charmingly janky, and the controls take a minute to click (rotating wall pieces with the D-pad feels awkward at first). But once you get into the rhythm of repairing, placing cannons, and frantically covering weak spots before the timer runs out, it’s weirdly satisfying. Later stages get brutal—one misplaced wall and your whole fortress crumbles.
It’s not for everyone, but if you like strategy games that punish mistakes, this one’s got that old-school bite.
