Rampart on the Game Boy is this weird little mix of Tetris and medieval warfare—you’ve got these blocky castle pieces to slap down before the timer runs out, then cannons to position before enemy ships start blasting your walls apart. At first, I kept messing up the layouts because I’d leave gaps, and nothing’s worse than watching a cannonball rip through your poorly planned defenses.
The real tension comes when you’re scrambling to rebuild between rounds while still aiming your own shots. It’s simple but surprisingly tense, especially when you realize those tiny ships on the horizon are about to ruin your day. The Game Boy version’s a bit clunkier than the arcade original, but it’s still weirdly satisfying to patch up your fortress just in time.
