About Rampage
Rampage came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, published by Bally Midway. It was part of that era on the NES where you could find all sorts of arcade ports, games built around a single, simple idea you could jump into right away. This one definitely fit that description.
You control one of two giant monsters, George the gorilla or Lizzie the lizard, and your goal is straightforward: smash every building in the city to move on to the next one. You climb up the sides of skyscrapers, punching windows and walls until the whole structure crumbles. While you do this, the military sends everything it has at you; you have to swat away helicopters, bat aside tanks, and deal with various vehicles crawling on the streets. You can also grab people who flee from the buildings and eat them to regain a little health. The game moves from one screen to the next as you clear cities, and the constant barrage of attacks means you are always losing life, making it a race to destroy everything before you are worn down. It feels like a chaotic, destructive playground where you are just trying to outlast the endless counterattacks.
