About Radar Mission
Radar Mission came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by Nintendo. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers were figuring out what worked on the small screen, and this one offered a mix of strategy and action that felt different from the usual platformers.
You control a fleet of ships, viewed from a top-down perspective on a grid. Your main goal is to hunt down and destroy the enemy fleet before they find and sink yours. The game is split into two distinct modes. In the strategy phase, you move your ships one square at a time across a concealed map, using your radar to guess enemy positions. When you think you've found a target, you switch to an action sequence; the screen shifts to a first-person view from your ship's bridge, and you must manually aim and fire your cannons to hit the enemy vessel before it fires back. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, as a wrong move can quickly end your game. It feels like a careful, high-stakes game of naval chess played out on a tiny green screen.
