About Racket Attack (europe)
Racket Attack came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, a time when the console was still home to a wide variety of sports titles. It was developed and published by Jaleco, a company known for a number of arcade and NES releases. This game was their take on tennis, offering a straightforward alternative to more complex simulations.
You control a tennis player from a side view, moving left and right along the baseline to return the ball. The main goal is to win matches by outscoring your opponent in sets, working your way through a tournament bracket. Signature mechanics include a simple two-button system for hitting flat shots and lobs, a power meter that charges as you hold the button for a stronger return, and the ability to move your player anywhere on the court. The pacing is quick, and the computer opponents can become quite difficult, demanding precise timing on your swings. It feels like a fast-paced volley where a single mistimed button press can lose you the point.
