Quake II on N64 is one of those shooters that still holds up—even if the graphics are a little chunky by today’s standards. You start off dumped onto this alien planet with nothing but a blaster, and within minutes, you’re dodging laser fire from these creepy biomechanical enemies. The controls feel surprisingly smooth for an N64 FPS, and the level design keeps you moving through tight corridors and open industrial zones.
Where it really shines is the multiplayer. Grab three friends, split the screen, and suddenly it’s 1999 all over again—chaotic, loud, and way too much fun. The shotgun’s still satisfying to use, and the railgun? Pure nostalgia. Just don’t expect it to be as polished as the PC version.
If you’ve got a soft spot for retro shooters, this one’s worth dusting off.
