Quake 64 is basically the N64 doing its best to cram the PC version of Quake into a cartridge—and honestly, it kinda works? The controls take some getting used to (no mouse and keyboard here), but once you adjust, it’s still that same dark, grimy shooter with creepy ambient noises and monsters jumping out at you. The lighting’s moody, the guns feel chunky, and yeah, you’ll still get lost in those maze-like levels just like the original.
Multiplayer’s where it really shines, though—grab three friends and a pile of pizza, and you’ve got a chaotic split-screen deathmatch that holds up way better than it should. Just don’t expect it to be as smooth as GoldenEye. It’s janky in that late-’90s N64 way, but that’s part of the charm.
