About Q Billion
Q Billion came out for the Game Boy in 1989, published by Jaleco. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers were figuring out what worked on the small screen, often creating condensed versions of arcade or console ideas. This one landed in the puzzle genre, a space that was getting crowded even back then, but it had its own particular flavor.
You control a little character who digs through dirt and rock, one block at a time, to uncover hidden question marks. Your main goal is to find all of them on each stage before a timer runs out. The signature mechanics involve careful excavation; you can only remove certain types of blocks, and if you dig out the wrong support, the ceiling can collapse on you. You also have to manage enemies that crawl along the paths you create, sometimes forcing you to trap them or dig alternate routes. The pacing is methodical, almost tense, because a single misstep can ruin a carefully planned tunnel. It feels like a quiet, solitary race against the clock where every dig matters.
