About Q-bert Ii
Q*bert II came out for the Game Boy in 1992, published by Konami. It was part of that wave of arcade conversions trying to fit a quarter-munching experience into a portable screen. You could find it in the same stores that sold piles of other grey cartridges, a familiar name in a new, monochrome format.
You control Q*bert, hopping diagonally across a pyramid of cubes. Your goal is to change the color of every cube on the screen by landing on them. The main mechanics involve avoiding enemies like Coily the snake and bouncing on flying discs to escape or eliminate threats. The game introduces new stage types and obstacles, like conveyor belts and temporary blocks, which force you to plan your route carefully. The pacing is relentless, with enemies spawning quickly and the level layout becoming more complex. It feels like a constant, frantic puzzle where one wrong hop can undo your progress.
