Q-bert II on Game Boy is one of those games that looks simple until you actually try it. You’re this little orange guy hopping around a pyramid, flipping tiles while these weird snake things and bouncing balls try to knock you off. The controls take a second to get used to—diagonal jumps always feel a little awkward at first—but once it clicks, you’ll be bouncing around like a pro.
The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, and the sound effects are pure nostalgia. Some of the later levels get brutal, especially when the platforms start disappearing under you. I still haven’t beaten the last few without cheating. If you’re into retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid pick.
