About Q-bert For Game Boy (usa, Europe)
I remember picking up Q*bert for the Game Boy in 1992, a portable version of the arcade game published by Gottlieb. It was one of those classic puzzle games that fit right in on the small screen during that era, a straightforward concept you could play in short bursts.
You control Q*bert, a little orange character with a snout, hopping diagonally across a pyramid of cubes. Your main goal is to change the color of every cube by landing on it, while avoiding enemies like Coily the snake and slick, purple creatures that move in predictable patterns. Two key mechanics define the action: you can use flying discs on the sides of the pyramid to quickly jump to the top and escape danger, and you have to be very careful not to hop off the edge of the playfield, which ends your turn immediately. The game starts simply but the pace quickens as more enemies appear, demanding quick hops and careful planning to clear each stage. It feels like a tense, sometimes frantic dance on a grid of colored blocks.
