Puzznic came to the Game Boy in 1990, a Taito puzzle game that fit right in your pocket alongside Tetris. It was part of that first wave of portable logic games, a straightforward concept you could pick up for a few minutes or get stuck on for much longer. The screen was simple, just a grid of colored blocks, and your job was to clear them.

You control a cursor to pick up and drop blocks, one at a time. The goal is to match two identical blocks so they vanish from the screen; you do this by moving a block next to its pair. Some stages have blocks that fall when you remove their supports, creating chain reactions. Others introduce immovable blocks or require you to clear the entire board in a specific order. The puzzles start gently but the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding careful planning for every move. It feels like untangling a knot in your head, one piece at a time.
