Puyo Puyo 4 on the N64 is that kind of puzzle game where you think you’ll just play a quick round, and suddenly an hour’s gone. The puyos—those little blobby things—drop faster than you expect, and before long, you’re frantically trying to set up chain reactions while your opponent’s garbage blocks rain down on you. The colors pop, the music’s weirdly catchy, and the CPU doesn’t pull punches even on normal difficulty.

Multiplayer’s where it really shines, though. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching your carefully planned 5-chain combo bury your friend’s screen under a mountain of junk puyos. The mechanics are simple to grasp (just match four of the same color), but pulling off those big, screen-clearing combos takes practice—and maybe a little spite if you’re playing against someone who keeps trash-talking. It’s chaotic in the best way.
