Prophecy: The Viking Child is one of those Game Boy games that feels bigger than it should—like someone crammed a full console adventure into that little gray brick. You play as a kid (who, let’s be honest, handles an axe better than most adults) trying to save your village from some vague, ancient doom. The pixel art has that classic early '90s charm, all chunky sprites and moody backgrounds, and the music sticks in your head way longer than you’d expect.
It’s not just mindless hacking and slashing, though. You’ll jump across floating platforms, sure, but then you’ll hit a room where you’re staring at switches and levers, trying to remember if pulling that one earlier opened a door somewhere else. The puzzles aren’t brutal, but they make you pause—I definitely backtracked a few times thinking, “Wait, did I miss something?”
If you’re into retro platformers with a bit of brainwork mixed in, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t blame me when you get the overworld theme stuck in your head for days.
