Prehistorik Man is one of those weird, charming Game Boy platformers that feels like it got lost in time. You play as this caveman with a ridiculous haircut, smacking dinosaurs with a club and collecting giant hunks of meat (because of course that’s the currency). The first level throws you straight into a jungle full of pterodactyls and rolling boulders—no hand-holding here.
The controls are a little stiff at first, but once you get the hang of the jump arcs and timing, it’s oddly satisfying. There’s something about bonking a T-Rex on the nose and then scrambling up a vine before it recovers. The music’s got that classic bouncy Game Boy vibe, and the levels get surprisingly creative—one minute you’re dodging lava pits, the next you’re riding a raft down a river while fish try to knock you off.
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s a goofy charm to it. Just don’t expect to finish it in one sitting—some of those later caves are brutal. If you’re into retro platformers with personality, this one’s worth dusting off.
