About Power Quest
I first played Power Quest on my Game Boy back in 1998. It was published by Sunsoft, a company that released a number of solid titles for the handheld. This was during an era when many games were built around straightforward action or puzzle mechanics, and Power Quest fit right into that library without a lot of fanfare.
You control a small robot who fights other robots in one-on-one martial arts battles inside various dungeons. Your main goal is to explore these areas screen by screen, defeating every opponent you meet to earn money. That cash is used to buy new parts for your robot, upgrading its arms, legs, and body to improve your attack power, defense, and mobility. The dungeons are maze-like, and the combat requires careful timing with punches and kicks rather than button mashing. The game can be quite difficult, as losing a fight sends you back to the start of a dungeon unless you have a continue. Moving through these challenges and customizing your robot gives the entire experience a steady, personal rhythm.
