Power Punch II is one of those NES boxing games that looks simple at first—until you get clocked in the face by some alien fighter with ridiculous reach. You start off training your guy, doing push-ups and speed drills like a montage from an '80s movie, but the real fun kicks in when you step into the ring.
The opponents get weirder as you go—I swear one of them had three arms—and the controls take a minute to get used to. Ducking feels stiff at first, but once you nail the timing, landing a knockout punch is stupidly satisfying. Just don’t get too cocky, because the later fights will wreck you if you don’t bob and weave like your life depends on it.
Controls: Z and X for punches, arrows to move. Space to pause when you inevitably need a breather.
It’s not the deepest boxing sim out there, but there’s something weirdly addictive about punching your way through a roster of intergalactic weirdos.
