Power Punch 2 is one of those NES boxing games that starts simple—you're Mark Tyler, a heavyweight champ who’s already crushed nine title defenses—but then throws you into the weirdest tournament ever. The Intergalactic Boxing Federation? Yeah, apparently that’s a thing in 2006, and now you’re brawling with cyborgs, mutants, and who knows what else.
The first fight feels familiar—jabs, dodges, the usual—until your opponent’s left hook nearly takes your head off. Turns out "could flatten a building" wasn’t just hype. The training ship helps, but nothing prepares you for the first time some chrome-plated freak knocks you halfway across the ring. You’ll need every trick from your Earth fights just to survive, let alone win.
It’s over-the-top, a little janky, and exactly what you’d want from a late-era NES game trying way too hard to stand out. If you can handle the occasional cheap shot from a mutant with four arms, it’s a weirdly satisfying ride.
