Populous on GB is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that shouldn’t work but totally does. You play as a god—yeah, full-on deity—molding terrain, raising mountains, and dropping disasters on villages while your tiny followers scramble around. At first, it feels like a puzzle game, but then you realize you’re basically playing chess with earthquakes and floods.
The controls are clunky by modern standards (it is a Game Boy port, after all), but there’s something satisfying about watching your little worshippers slowly take over the map while the rival god’s forces panic. The terrain manipulation is surprisingly deep—sometimes you’ll spend minutes just flattening land so your guys can build faster.
It’s definitely a slow burn, and the graphics are… well, they’re Game Boy graphics. But if you’re into old-school strategy or just want to feel like a petty, vengeful god for a while, this one’s weirdly addictive. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
