About Pocket Puyo Puyo Tsuu (japan)
Pocket Puyo Puyo Tsuu came out in 1994 for the Game Boy, developed by Compile. It was part of that wave of puzzle games you could carry around, a direct sequel to the first Pocket Puyo Puyo. This was the era where a good puzzle game on a handheld felt like a small miracle, something you could play in short bursts or for hours.
You control falling pairs of colored blobs, called Puyo, and your main objective is to clear them from the screen by connecting four or more of the same color. The signature mechanics are the chain reactions and the garbage Puyo you send to your opponent. Setting up a big chain feels like building a trap; you place your Puyo carefully, waiting for that one piece to trigger a cascade that floods the other side with nuisance blocks. The game's pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, especially against the computer characters. It feels tense and satisfying when your plan comes together and the screen clears in a series of pops.
