Pocket Mahjong on Game Boy is exactly what it sounds like—mahjong solitaire, but portable. You start with a neatly arranged stack of tiles, scanning for matching pairs you can remove. At first it seems straightforward, but the deeper layers start showing up fast—some tiles are buried under others, and clearing one pair might lock you out of another.

The controls are simple (d-pad to move, A to select), but the real challenge is spotting patterns before you paint yourself into a corner. I kept getting stuck halfway through, realizing too late that I’d left myself with no valid moves. The music’s this weirdly calming chiptune loop that somehow makes losing less frustrating.

It’s not flashy, but if you like tile-matching puzzles, this one’s got that “just one more try” pull. Perfect for killing time on a bus ride.
