About Pocket Battle
Pocket Battle came out for the original Game Boy in 1990, published by Irem. It was part of that wave of early portable games where developers were figuring out what worked on the small screen, often creating condensed versions of bigger ideas. This one was a turn based strategy game, a genre you didn't see too often on the system back then.
You command a small squad of soldiers, moving them across grid based maps that represent different combat scenarios. Your main goal is to defeat all the enemy units or capture their base. The mechanics are straightforward; you move your units one by one, then attack if an enemy is in range. The terrain matters, as forests provide cover and rivers slow movement. The game moves at a deliberate, thoughtful pace, and the difficulty can be sharp, punishing careless advances. It feels like a compact, portable war game that demands your full attention.
