Pipe Dream came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, a puzzle game from Lucasfilm Games. It was part of that era on the NES where you could find all sorts of clever games tucked between the big action titles.

You control a little plumber who runs around a grid, placing different pipe pieces that appear in a random order. Your main job is to build a continuous path from a start pipe before a green slime called Flooz starts flowing through it. The Flooz has to travel through a specific number of pipe segments for you to finish the level, and sometimes you also need to connect it to a special end piece. The challenge comes from the random piece queue and the timer; you have to think and place pipes quickly before the Flooz catches up to an unfinished path. The game gets difficult fast, demanding quick decisions as the layouts get more complex. It feels like a constant, satisfying race against a slow but relentless clock.
