Pilotwings 64 is one of those games that feels simple at first—just flying around, doing loops, trying not to crash—but then it sneaks up on you. The controls are weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of them, especially the rocket belt. Nothing beats nailing a perfect landing after barely scraping past a mountain.
The Japanese version doesn’t change much, but there’s something charming about the little text differences. The landscapes still hold up, too—flying over those blocky N64 islands at sunset hits different. It’s not a fast-paced game, more like a chill way to waste an afternoon while pretending you’re a stunt pilot.
Just don’t get too cocky with the hang glider. Those thermal currents will wreck you.
