You control Penta from an overhead perspective, moving screen by screen through forests, caves, and castles. Your main goal is to find and defeat each dragon in its lair. You use a sword for close combat and can find a bow for attacking enemies from a distance. A key mechanic involves collecting colored orbs dropped by certain foes; these orbs are required to damage the dragons, so you must often hunt specific monsters before a boss fight. The game moves at a deliberate pace, with some backtracking, and the difficulty comes from enemy placement and limited health recovery.
