About Parodius
Parodius came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, a Konami release during a time when the console was full of straightforward shooters. It stood out immediately, not by trying to be more serious, but by being the opposite.
You control a selection of odd characters, like a penguin or a spaceship shaped like the Vic Viper from Gradius, but with a face. Your goal is to fly from left to right, shooting everything in your path. The signature mechanics involve collecting bells from defeated enemies; these bells cycle through power-ups when you shoot them, letting you choose new weapons or options like speed boosts or helper satellites. The game is fast and often crowded with enemies and projectiles, demanding quick reflexes to navigate the chaotic patterns.
