About Parodius (europe)
Parodius arrived on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, a Konami release that took their own Gradius formula and filled it with absurdity. It was a strange sight on the NES, a console known for more straightforward adventures, offering a shooter where the enemies were less alien armadas and more flying penguins and bipedal octopuses.
You pilot a selection of odd ships, including a twin-engine Vic Viper and a sentient penguin, navigating horizontally scrolling stages. Your main goal is simply to survive the onslaught and defeat the stage boss. You collect power-up capsules to build a customizable weapon bar, choosing when to activate options, speed boosts, or new shot types. The game is fast and often difficult, with enemy patterns that demand quick reflexes. The experience is a chaotic and unpredictable ride from start to finish.
