About Palamedes (japan)
I picked up Palamedes for the Game Boy back when it came out in 1990, a release from the developer Hot B. It was a time when the handheld was full of simple, focused games, and this one fit right in with its unique take on the puzzle genre.
You control a cursor at the bottom of the screen, aiming to clear rows of dice that scroll down from the top. The main objective is to match the number shown on your targeting reticle by shooting dice of that same value, causing them and any adjacent matching dice to vanish. Your main tools are the dice already on the field; you must constantly reassess the board and chain reactions to prevent the stack from reaching the bottom. The pace is deliberate, but the difficulty ramps up as the dice descend faster and the required numbers get more specific. It feels like a constant, satisfying calculation against a creeping deadline.
