About Palamedes (europe)
I first played Palamedes on my Game Boy around 1992. It was published by Hot B Co., Ltd., and it stood out from other puzzle games of that time on the handheld. While many games used falling blocks, this one used dice, which felt like a fresh take on the genre.
You control a cursor at the bottom of the screen, selecting from a row of dice that appear. Your main goal is to clear the screen of advancing enemy dice by matching their numbers. You roll your own dice to get the values you need, then shoot them at the matching enemies. The key mechanics involve planning your rolls to create combos and managing the constant pressure as the rows descend. The game starts calmly but quickly becomes frantic, demanding quick decisions to avoid a game over. It feels like a tense, numerical race against the clock.
