About Pachio-kun - Puzzle Castle (japan)
I picked up Pachio-kun - Puzzle Castle for the Game Boy back in 1994. It was developed by KID and published by VAP, a release that fit right in with the portable puzzle games of that era. The box art was simple, promising a straightforward challenge, and that is exactly what it delivered without any grand pretensions.
You control a small character navigating through a multi-story castle, room by room. Your main goal is to reach the exit on each floor, but the path is blocked by blocks that must be cleared. The core mechanics involve pushing blocks into place to create pathways, while also avoiding or eliminating enemies that get in your way. Some blocks are indestructible, forcing you to plan your route carefully, and others can be used as weapons. The difficulty ramps up steadily, with later stages demanding precise moves and forward thinking. It feels like a quiet, methodical test of your patience and spatial reasoning as you work through each compact screen.
