About Pachinko Gaiden
Pachinko Gaiden was a Game Boy release from 1990, developed by Coconuts Japan and published by VAP. It arrived during the handheld's early years, a time when developers experimented with bringing various Japanese arcade staples to the portable screen. This title was part of that wave, translating the loud, mechanical pachinko experience into a quiet, monochrome game you could carry in your pocket.
You control a cursor to launch steel balls into a vertical playfield filled with pins, bumpers, and gates. Your main objective is to land balls in specific pockets to trigger bonus modes and advance through a series of themed tables. Key mechanics include using flippers at the bottom to save stray balls from draining and activating special targets that multiply your score or release additional balls onto the field. The game moves at the deliberate pace of real pachinko, demanding patience and precise aim rather than quick reflexes; some tables can feel unforgiving if your shots don't find their mark. It feels like a solitary, almost meditative test of your ability to nudge chance in your favor.
