About Pac-panic (japan)
I picked up Pac-Panic for the Game Boy in 1996, a Namco release that came out when the handheld was full of puzzle games trying to stand out. It was a strange but interesting twist on the Pac-Man character, putting him in a genre that felt completely different from his usual maze-chasing adventures.
You control Pac-Man at the bottom of the screen, and your goal is to clear each stage by removing all the ghosts trapped inside falling tile blocks. The main mechanics involve connecting four or more matching tiles to make them vanish; you can also form lines to drop fruit, which Pac-Man eats to clear entire rows at once. The pacing starts deceptively simple, but the speed of the falling blocks quickly ramps up, demanding quick decisions and pattern recognition to prevent the screen from filling. It feels like a constant, engaging race against the clock.
