About Pac-in-time (japan)
I picked up Pac-In-Time for the Game Boy back in 1995, a Namco release that came out when the handheld was full of platformers and puzzle games. It was one of those titles that tried something different with a familiar character, moving away from the maze chase formula into a side-scrolling adventure. You don't see many games like it from that era on the system.
You control Pac-Man himself, guiding him through levels screen by screen. The main goal is to find a key in each stage to unlock the exit door. You have a sword to fend off enemies and a bow for hitting switches or targets from a distance. The game involves a lot of careful platforming and exploration, with some stages requiring you to push blocks to solve environmental puzzles. The pacing can be deliberate, and the difficulty ramps up in later worlds, demanding precise jumps and timing. It feels like a methodical, sometimes challenging quest where every screen is a small, self-contained puzzle to solve.
