About Pga European Tour Golf (e)
I picked up PGA European Tour Golf for the Nintendo 64 around the time it came out in 2000, a release from Infogrames. It was one of the few golf games on the system trying to carve out a space alongside the more popular titles. The graphics were typical for the era, with blocky character models and flat-looking courses that still managed to convey a sense of the fairways and greens.
You control a professional golfer, aiming to win tournaments across various European courses. The main objective is to post the lowest score over multiple rounds, managing your performance hole by hole. The game's signature mechanics include a three-click swing system where you press a button to start the swing, again to set power, and a final time to determine accuracy. You also have to read the green grids for putts and frequently adjust for wind conditions. The pacing is deliberate, demanding careful club selection and shot planning, and the difficulty can spike on the later courses with narrow fairways and tricky hazards. It feels like a patient, thoughtful test of your timing and course management skills.
