About Over Horizon (japan)
Over Horizon came out in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Pixel and published by Hot-B in Japan. It was a late release for the NES, a time when developers were pushing the hardware with more complex shooters.
You pilot a lone starfighter through horizontally scrolling stages filled with enemy craft and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to survive the relentless assault and defeat the boss waiting at the end of each area. A key mechanic is the ability to detach and freely position your two satellite pods; you can lock them in front for a concentrated forward barrage, spread them wide for broader coverage, or set them to auto-fire at nearby targets. You also collect power-ups that change your main weapon, from lasers and homing missiles to a powerful, wide-reaching wave beam. The game is fast and demanding, with enemy patterns that require quick reflexes and smart positioning of your pods. Navigating the dense enemy formations while managing your satellite firepower creates a tense and engaging experience.
