Otogibanashi Taisen (japan) Game

Otogibanashi Taisen is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s a surprisingly solid strategy RPG with a fairy tale twist. You’ve got classic characters like Momotaro and Urashima Taro leading armies of yokai and samurai into grid-based battles, and the art has this rough-but-charming 8-bit style. The first few fights ease you in, but don’t get too comfortable—positioning matters way more than you’d think, and some units just crumple if you leave them exposed.
It’s not perfect (the menus are a bit clunky by modern standards), but there’s something oddly satisfying about watching a well-planned ambush wipe out an enemy squad. If you’re into retro SRPGs, this one’s worth digging up.
