About Operation Wolf
Operation Wolf came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by Taito. It was part of that wave of arcade shooters trying to find a home on consoles, a time when light guns were a popular, if sometimes finicky, accessory.
You control a lone soldier viewed from behind, moving through hostile territory screen by screen. Your main objective is to rescue all the hostages while surviving relentless enemy attacks. The signature mechanics involve using a limited supply of ammunition and grenades, forcing you to make every shot count and pick up supplies dropped by fallen foes. The pacing is relentless; soldiers pour from the jungle, patrol boats fire from the water, and helicopters swoop in, with the difficulty spiking noticeably in later stages where enemies wear body armor or throw grenades. It feels like a constant, tense fight for survival where a single mistake can cost you a life.
