Olympic Hockey Nagano '98 is one of those N64 sports games that actually holds up—especially if you’ve got a buddy to play against. The controls are simple enough (just mash that C-button for slapshot madness), but there’s some sneaky depth if you start passing and setting up plays. Graphics are blocky by today’s standards, but the ice actually looks decent, and the player animations have that weirdly satisfying late-90s charm.
Playing as Team Canada or Sweden feels legit, even if the rosters are obviously outdated. The physics are surprisingly solid—pucks bounce off the boards realistically, and checking someone into the glass never gets old. The AI isn’t amazing, but the multiplayer is where this shines. Nothing like trash-talking your friend after scoring a last-second goal with Japan, of all teams.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a hidden gem—just don’t expect NHL-level realism.
